Step 2 Fantasy Vanity Unit from Activity Toys Direct: A Review

Last year we were picked to be one of 10 Activity Toys Direct Ambassadors in conjunction with Tots100. We got to review a fabulous Berg Buddy Go-Kart as our first product to review. You can find our review here if you want to see just how much fun we had on the Go-Kart.

Now it's time for our second review and Activity Toys Direct have sent us a Step 2 Fantasy Vanity Unit. I was very excited when it arrived because it was the sort of toy I dreamed of having as a child (but never did!)
It does require a little bit of self-assembly so you'll need a screwdriver and a strong pair of hands. The 2 pieces of the stool simply clipped together into place. Then the shatterproof mirror is stuck onto the frame (the adhesive pads are provided) and the frame screwed onto the base of the vanity unit. Clear instructions are provided which were straightforward to follow.

A hairbrush, comb and handheld mirror are also included which we thought was a really nice touch. There are some decal stickers already in place on the unit to brighten it up.

Miss T absolutely loved her new hairbrush and mirror!

There is also a real working light at the top of the mirror. This needs 4 AAA batteries which are not included.

A drawer that is big enough for the brush and comb set as well as some other hair accessories provides a perfect storage solution. We are always losing Miss T's hairbands and clips so it is great to have somewhere to store them from now on.

We quickly learnt not to make any assumptions. We had imagined that this would very much be a toy for Miss T to play with but we found that D wanted to join in playing hairdressers with her. It was great that it was a toy that they could both enjoy together like this.

It gave them the opportunity for imaginative play and role play.

We have found a space downstairs for the Fantasy Vanity Unit for the time being as it is nice to be able to allow Miss T to play with it throughout the day. Eventually when she is old enough to play unsupervised, it will go into her own room.

We found that she soon realised it was her own 'space' and started to fill it with all her special toys.

We also found that big bro thought it was a great place to comb his hair ready for school!
Activity Toys Direct has lots more planned throughout the year so make sure you are following them on Facebook and Twitter to find out all the latest. There are also lots of giveaways - a current one for a fantastic Step 2 playhouse can be found on their blog right now, and another Activity Toys Direct giveaway to win a Child's Studio art desk is currently being hosted over at Coombe Mill

NEWSFLASH: Date for your diary - We are co-hosting the next Activity Toys Direct Twitter party on Tuesday 11th February at 1pm together with the lovely Clare from Emmy's Mummy. Make sure you are following us on Twitter. We can be found @TheBeesleyBuzz.

    1. It was so sweet that they both wanted to play hairdressers. I'm glad no scissors were involved though thankfully. x

    1. it is funny how little girls seem to love to brush hair. Miss T has always loved hairbrushes for as long as I can remember whereas J and D have never been too interested (until now that is). x

  4. That looks lovely. Little B loves brushing his hair and putting on 'makeup'- anything to be like Mummy!
